Pinehurst Keeneland September Yearlings spearheaded by $225,000 purchase

Walmac Farm’s first-crop yearling sire Pinehurst had a successful Keeneland September Yearling Sale, which was topped by a colt that sold for $225,000.

Listed as Hip 2395 and consigned by Woods Edge Farm, the bay colt is out of the Lemon Drop Kid mare Honor and Justice–a half-sister to Black-type winner Breaking Bread and stakes-placed Crimson Zip. He additionally comes from the same family as multiple Graded stakes winner Pacific Gale.

Bloodstock agent Seth Morris signed the ticket on behalf of Sabby Racing, and spoke volumes of the yearling colt.

“I like a big strong colt, and this one stood out,” said Morris. “He was very correct and well-balanced, and he had a big walk.”

Other prominent buyers of Keeneland September Pinehurst yearlings include Michael Dubb, Barry Berkelhammer, Kings Equine, Clark Brewster, Chad Schumer, etc.

Pinehurst is a Grade 1-winning son of Twirling Candy who captured the G1 Del Mar Futurity in his stakes debut as a juvenile, and won the G3 Saudi Derby in the Middle East the following year. More of his first yearlings are being offered at the upcoming Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Fall Yearling Sale in Timonium, Maryland.
