Fulsome – Alan Porter Mating Analysis
Five-time graded stakes winning and grade one placed millionaire, Fulsome is bred on the stallion producing Into Mischief/Distorted Humor. From a famous Juddmonte branch of the Chris Evert family, he’s out of a half-sister to grade one winners Sightseek and Tates Creek.
Fulsome is bred on the same Into Mischief/Distorted Humor cross as Into Mischief’s leading stallion son, Practical Joke, and a similar Into Mischief/Forty Niner cross to classic sire, Goldencents. Practical Joke sired stakes winner Mischief Joke out of a mare by Distorted Humor, and a similar pattern could be achieved through daughters of Flower Alley – himself broodmare of an Into Mischief graded stakes winner – Drosselmeyer, Maclean’s Music, Jimmy Creed, Alternation, Brethren and Khozan. Distorted Humor is a son of Forty Niner, a stallion who could also be introduced through mares by Coronado’s Quest, Roar (broodmare sire of an Into Mischief stakes winner), Trippi (broodmare sire of an Into Mischief graded winner), Sunday Break (broodmare sire of a Practical Joke stakes winner) and Twining.
The Into Mischief cross with mares from the Gone West branch of Mr. Prospector has been an extremely successful one. Daughters of Mr. Greeley have supplied Kentucky Derby (G1) and Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) winner Authentic, and he can be brought in through Whywhywhy and El Corredor; grade one winners Mia Mischief and Mischievous Alex are out of mares by Speightstown (broodmare sire of two Practical Joke stakes winners, sire of Munnings and Central Banker, another who is broodmare sire of a Practical Joke stakes winner); from a mare by Grand Slam, Into Mischief sired graded winner Strict Compliance, and he has graded winner Somebeyay out of a mare by Grand Slam son, Limehouse. Into Mischief and sons have four stakes winners out of mares by Elusive Quality (who is broodmare sire of a Practical Joke stakes winner), as well as a graded winner out of a mare by his son, Quality Road, and a stakes winner from a mare by another son, Smarty Jones, and Elusive Quality is also sire of Great Notion, Omega Code and Exclusive Quality, and there are already two Into Mischief line stakes winners out of mares by Proud Citizen, including one by Practical Joke. Other sons of Gone West to have stood in Florida include Dance Master, Bahamian Squall and Double Honor.
Into Mischief has enjoyed considerable success with mares from the Fappiano branch of Mr. Prospector. This is particularly so via Unbridled, who appears as broodmare sire of Into Mischief’s brilliant daughter Covfefe. The cross of Into Mischief and sons with mares by Unbridled son, Empire Maker, has been a prolific one and has provided such as Kentucky Derby winner Mandaloun and Dubai World Cup victor, Laurel River. There is also a stakes winner out of a mare by Empire Maker son, Pioneerof the Nile and Empire Maker is also sire of Bodemeister, and grandsire of American Pharoah, Classic Empire and Cairo Prince.
The Into Mischief cross with a mare by Unbridled’s Song has produced grade one winner Gina Romantica, as well as a graded stakes winner by Practical Joke, and from mares by sons of Unbridled’s Song, we find Into Mischief graded winner Maximus Mischief out of a mare by Songandaprayer, and a stakes winners out of mares by two other sons, Political Force and Rockport Harbor. Unbridled’s Song could also be brought in through Liam’s Map, Arrogate, Midshipman and Cross Traffic. There is an Into Mischief line group winner out of a mare by Spanish Steps – a brother to Unbridled’s Song – and there are also stakes winners out of mares by other Unbridled sons, Broken Vow, Saarland and Harlington.
Out of a mare from the Cryptoclearance branch of Fappiano, Into Mischief has graded stakes winner Conquest Enforcer out of a mare by Victory Gallop; there are ten stakes winners by Into Mischief and sons, including Practical Joke’s grade one winner Chocolate Gelato and two other graded stakes winners, out of mares by Candy Ride (sire of Twirling Candy and Gun Runner), and grade one winner Doppelganger is out of a mare by Fappiano son Quiet American (grandsire of Midnight Lute).
Into Mischief has graded winner Golden Mischief out of a mare by Mr. Prospector son, Carson City, and graded winner Gas Station Sushi out of a mare by Carson City son Five Star Day, which also suggests daughters of City Zip (broodmare sire of Practical Joke grade one winner Corsia Veloce), while Practical Joke has a stakes winner out of a mare by Cuvee. Into Mischief has sired stakes winners out of daughters of Mutakddim and Bob and John (both by Seeking the Gold, also sire of Petionville and Cape Town), and graded stakes winner Miss Mischief out of a mare by Lemon Drop Kid (by Kingmambo).
Overall, almost any strain of Mr. Prospector might prove positive here, but we can note that Into Mischief has also sired graded winners Bye Bye and Resiliance out of mares by Smart Strike. Smart Strike is sire of Lookin at Lucky (broodmare sire of Into Mischief grade one winner Timberlake, and of a Practical Joke grade one winner), Curlin (broodmare sire of two Into Mischief stakes winners) and English Channel. Into Mischief also has stakes winners out of mares by Thunder Gulch and Pulling Punches (by Two Punch, also sire of Smoke Glacken), and Practical Joke has grade one Practical Move out of a mare by Afleet Alex (by Northern Afleet) and stakes winners out of mares by Street Sense and E. Dubai.
From another branch of the sire line stemming from Mr. Prospector’s sire, Raise a Native, that of Majestic Prince, Into Mischief has graded stakes winner Mighty Mischief out of a mare by Super Saver (by Maria’s Mon), himself sire of Runhappy.
Turning to the Northern Dancer line, we find that Into Mischief has enjoyed considerable success with mares from the Danzig line, including graded winner Can The Man out of a mare by Danzig himself, graded stakes winner Ain’t Easy out of a mare by Fastnet Rock (from the Danehill branch), a graded stakes winner out of a mare by Hard Spun, and stakes winners out of mares by Lil’s Lad and Polish Numbers. There are a number of other sources of Danzig that would appeal here, including Belong to Me, War Front (sire of Declaration of War, The Factor, Summer Front, Data Link, Jack Milton and Hit it a Bomb) and Exchange Rate.
Into Mischief’s graded stakes winner Vyjack is out of a mare by Stravinsky, a son of the Northern Dancer horse, Nureyev. Other sources of Nureyev include Fasliyev, Spinning World, Theatrical, Unusual Heat and Atticus. He is also emerging as an option for the Medaglia d’Oro branch of Sadler’s Wells – a three-quarters brother to Nureyev – with three stakes winners, one graded, out of mares by Medaglia d’Oro (by El Prado), and a graded stakes winner by Practical Joke on that cross; a graded one winner out of a mare by that horse’s son, Violence; and a stakes winner out of a mare by another son Warrior’s Reward (broodmare sire of a Practical Joke grade one winner). This would suggest trying mares by other El Prado sons, Kitten’s Joy and Artie Schiller. The Into Mischief cross over mares by
Sadler’s Wells son Galileo has also been a grade one producing one, including for Practical Joke, and Galileo sons in the U.S. include Magician and Capo Blanco. There is also a grade one winner by Practical Joke out of a mare by Sadler’s Wells son, Powerscourt.
From the Deputy Minister branch of Northern Dancer, the similarly-bred Practical Joke has a grade one winner out of mares by Paynter (brother to Oxbow) and a stakes winner out of a mare by Ghostzapper, all by Awesome Again. There is also a stakes winner out of a mare by Dixieland Band and another from a mare by his son Dixie Union (sire of Union Rags).
From his own Storm Cat branch of Northern Dancer, Practical Joke has sired four grade one winners out of mares by Scat Daddy (sire of Justify).
On the cross with A.P. Indy line mares, Into Mischief is sire of grade one winner Atone out of a mare by A.P. Indy himself. He also appears to have a strong affinity with mares Tapit (by Pulpit), with four stakes winners, including the Kentucky Oaks (G1) winner Pretty Mischievous. Tapit is sire of Constitution Cupid, Frosted, Tapizar, Tonalist, Tapiture and Trappe Shot and Pulpit is also sire of Corinthian (broodmare sire of a Practical Joke graded stakes winner), Sky Mesa, Stroll, Mr. Speaker, Power Broker, Sightseeing and Parading.
We can also note Into Mischief millionaire Owendale and graded winner Twenty Carat out of mares by Bernardini (sire of Stay Thirsty and To Honor and Serve). There is also Into Mischief line grade one winner, Newgate, out of a mare by Majestic Warrior, graded stakes winner Chess Chief out of a mare by Mineshaft (sire of Discreetly Mine and Dialed In) and stakes winners out of mares by Aptitude and Congrats and his brother to Flatter (broodmare sire of a Practical Joke stakes winner), which additionally suggests introducing Malibu Moon, Mineshaft, Girolamo, Jump Start, Take Charge Indy and Stephen Got Even.
Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Mystik Dan is by a Goldencents – bred on similar lines to Fulsome – out of a mare Colonel John, a son of Tiznow, and Champion Wonder Wheel is by Into Mischief out of a mare by another Tiznow son Tiz Wonderful, which would make mares by Gemologist a possible. Tiznow is from the Relaunch line and from other branches of this line there are Into Mischief line stakes winners out of mares by Honour and Glory (sire of Put It Back), and by Skywalker and his grandson Officer.
Into Mischief’s spectacular daughter Gamine is out of a mare by Kafwain, and he also has graded winner One Liner out of a mare by that horse’s sire, Cherokee Run, and a stakes winner out of a mare by another son of that horse, Yonaguska, all from the Blushing Groom line. Fout of mares from other branches of this line, Into Mischief’s sire, Harlan’s Holiday sired Champion Shanghai Bobby out of a mare by Orientate (by Mt. Livermore, also sire of Housebuster and Peaks and Valleys), who is also broodmare sire of graded winner Wildman Jack by a son of Into Mischief. There is also a stakes winner by Into Mischief out of a mare by Rahy.
We can also note that Into Mischief has a grade one winner Dayoutoftheoffice and graded winner Frank’s Rockette out of mares by Indian Charlie (broodmare sire of a Practical Joke stakes winner), sire of Uncle Mo (sire of Nyquist, Laoban and Outwork), Bwana Charlie (broodmare sire of Practical Joke graded stakes winner), Adios Charlie, Liaison and Cindago.
