Walmac Farm’s stallion Pappacap, winner of the 2021 Best Pal S. (G2) at two and a near-millionaire son of Horse of the Year and leading stallion Gun Runner, sired his first reported foal on Sunday, Jan. 12. The colt, who was bred by John Penn of Pennland Farm in Paris, KY., is out of the winning Liaison mare Three Halos, a half-sister to Grade 3 winner Cinco Charlie. This is also the family of graded stakes winners My Pal Charlie, Bwana Charlie, and Bwana Bull.
Longtime breeder John Penn is delighted with the result of the mating. “If someone doesn’t like this foal then they don’t like horses,” Penn said.
Grade 2 winner and multiple Grade 1-placed Pappacap is by Gun Runner, 2017 Horse of the Year and Champion Older Male, and record-setting leading First-Crop Sire of 2021. Pappacap was one of just two colts by the esteemed stallion to win a graded stakes race at two that year. Out of a graded stakes-placed Scat Daddy mare who also produced graded stakes winner Boppy O, Pappacap hails from the family of Group 1 winner Al Qasr, Champion Imported Older Horse twice in Peru and two-time Champion Imported Stayer, multiple stakes winner Delicate Dynamite, and graded stakes winner Boston Bull.
